Welcome
Leeds City Council
Thank you for your interest in joining Leeds City Council. We are recruiting to some exciting senior leadership roles offering you the opportunity to have a real impact on our city’s future – its physical and economic development, localities and communities, homes and environment, and the lives of our citizens.
Since joining the council at the start of this year, I’ve spent time in every corner of the city, visiting communities and meeting council teams who deliver vital services. Witnessing what we do every day for local people makes me so proud to do this job.
What’s struck me most is the pride, dedication and creativity shown across the council. I’ve also seen the power of our partnerships, across the third sector and with businesses, with regional colleagues and with central government. These relationships are one of Leeds’ greatest strengths and show what’s possible when we pull together.
Leeds is a large, contemporary and richly diverse city - and our ambition is for everyone who lives here to benefit from the city’s progress. Our Leeds Ambitions are our overall vision for the future of Leeds, with a central mission to tackle poverty and inequality and improve quality of life for everyone who calls Leeds home.
Our four priorities at the heart of the Leeds Ambitions capture the things that will make the biggest contribution to improving people’s lives in Leeds, representing these themes:
- Healthy: health and wellbeing
- Growing: inclusive growth
- Thriving: strong communities
- Resilient: sustainable city
Many of the big challenges we face and the best opportunities we have relate to all four themes, and we know we cannot accomplish our goals alone. The Leeds Ambitions are a team effort and we embrace a Team Leeds approach – working closely with services across the council, with our partners in the city and with communities to achieve our vision.
Leeds City Council is one of the largest employers in the region, with approximately 14,000 colleagues working across a wide range of roles and services. As a council we have great pride in our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion both for our staff and our residents.
Our strong values of openness, honesty and trust guide everything we do. Our colleagues talk about the pride they feel in making a difference, and in return for their dedication and contribution we offer a workplace where people feel supported, that celebrates people for who they are and encourages everyone to grow.
We are looking for leadership candidates ready to represent the city at all levels, promoting its continued growth and competitiveness by taking a bold, creative and compassionate approach to help our city and its people reach their full potential.
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about this opportunity to shape our city and create a better future for our residents. We look forward to hearing from you.
